Thran Dynamo is a four-mana artifact from Urza’s Destiny (1999), that can be tapped to add three colorless mana to your mana pool. This card fits perfectly into Urza block’s theme of artifacts that push the limits of mana production – a hallmark of one of the most powerful and infamous eras in Magic’s history. This card can come down on turn three (or even two) with ramp, enabling huge plays like Karn Liberated, Wurmcoil Engine, or Mindslaver on the next turn. It has a great synergy with a lot of different cards (e.g. Voltaic Key and Karn, the Great Creator), and can go into any deck. Thran Dynamo is one of the top artifact ramp staples across all of Commander (EDH), especially strong in decks like Urza, Lord High Artificer and Kozilek, the Great Distortion. In Legacy and Vintage artifact decks it used to be played in MUD (Stax), Metalworker, and “12-Post” decks to power out high-cost artifacts like Sundering Titan, Blightsteel Colossus, or Wurmcoil Engine. These decks were often paired with Grim Monolith and Voltaic Key for explosive turns. Nowadays in current Legacy, Thran Dynamo still sees play in Eldrazi Aggro and Cloudpost Ramp/”12-Post” decks. This card is not on the Reserved List.
