As a result of its success on SNES, on March 10th 1993, Capcom and Sega entered into an agreement which allowed Capcom to develop games for Sega as an official licensee. Rather than duplicate the Super Nintendo version, Sega and Capcom created Street Fighter II Championship Edition, which offered several new features absent from the SNES version. Most notable was the ability to compete as one of the four Boss characters — Balrog, Vega, Saga & M. Bison.[1] To appropriately highlight what makes the Championship Edition unique, the Boss of Bosses, M. Bison, is featured on the above cover painting illustrating for viewers one of the lessons learned in game play: the best defense is a good offense, as he inflicts a powerful scissor kick in counter to Guile’s impending Sonic-boom. Street Fighter II was inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame in 2017.
[1] Electronic Games Magazine November 1993

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0721/8000/6957/files/Street_Fighter_2_OriginalCoverArt_Championship_Edition_front_a_white.jpg?v=1775128135
