Sneak Attack (Repaint)
Featured here is Repaint # 1 of 10 by beloved Magic artist Jerry Tiritilli. The artist has agreed he will never paint any more exact replicas of this original art as it appears on the card, other than this limited edition of 10. Sneak Attack is a powerful enchantment originally printed in Urza’s Saga that allows players to cheat massive creatures into play for just one red mana. Once it’s on the battlefield, the player can put a creature from their hand into play with haste, but it’s sacrificed at the end of the turn. This makes it perfect for combo decks that want to drop huge, game-ending threats like Griselbrand, Emrakul, the Aeons Torn, or Atraxa, Grand Unifier without paying their full cost. The card is a cornerstone of the Sneak and Show archetype in Legacy, where it’s paired with Show and Tell to create explosive turns that win the game early. Since the ability doesn’t cast a creature it makes it difficult to interfere with besides stopping the activated ability (e.g. Stifle). Sometimes it might even be useful to sneak the creature in during the opponent’s turn or during their end step to make some advantageous plays. It’s also used in certain cEDH decks that want to abuse enter-the-battlefield effects or reanimation combos, often in red-black shells and has play in the Premodern format. Sneak Attack is not on the Reserved List and has been reprinted several
