Ramirez DePietro was one of the earliest attempts at flavorful, story-driven card design in Magic. He’s depicted as a rogue pirate captain – dashing, dangerous, and a bit unreliable. In the original Legends (1994) set, he was simply a 4/3 first striker, but even then, his art and lore gave him a distinct personality. In Commander Legends (2020), he was reimagined as Ramirez DePietro, Pillager, fully embracing his pirate flavor. That version brought him back into modern playability, but the original Legends printing remains a nostalgic collector’s gem. It’s one of Magic’s first “pirates”, years before the type was mechanically supported. In Commander (EDH), he is played in some UB Control / Legends Theme decks. Some players build “Old School Legends” decks using only Legends-era commanders for the flavor. This card is on the Reserved List, it cannot be reprinted in his original Legends form.
