Pearl Medallion (Original Art)
Pearl Medallion is all about efficiency and tempo – two things white decks often struggle with to maintain, compared to other colors. While white is strong in creature efficiency and board control, it lacks consistent mana acceleration. Pearl Medallion bridges that gap beautifully by reducing the cost of every white spell, letting you double-spell earlier, or cast expensive cards a turn sooner. It helps offset white’s lack of traditional ramp (unlike green or blue). It also makes board wipes, angels, enchantments, and equipment more efficient. Players love it because it turns every turn after turn two into a smoother curve – and in white, that matters a lot. In Commander (EDH), Pearl Medallion is a staple in white decks. It fits into many different archetypes like Mono-White Control, White Weenie / Tokens, Equipment / Voltron Decks, Angel Tribal, and Enchantress / Pillowfort. Pearl Medallion is so strong in EDH, because white decks cast a high density of white spells, ensuring the Medallion always pays for itself. White is often mana-hungry for casting multiple small permanents per turn. It combos with Smothering Tithe, Land Tax, and Archaeomancer’s Map, enabling resource parity with other colors. Historically, Pearl Medallion appeared in several competitive Standard and Extended decks in the late 1990’s that ran enchantment-heavy white control packages. In Tempest-Urza’s Saga Standard (1997-1999), it occasionally appeared in Mono-White Control, using Wrath of God, Opalescence and Parallax Wave. It also showed up in White Prison Decks featuring Winter Orb and Enlightened Tutor. Pearl Medallion is not on the Reserved List.
