Nyx Lotus (Original Sketch)
Nyx Lotus is a four-mana Legendary artifact from Theros Beyond Death (2020), that enters the battlefield tapped – and can add mana of a chosen color equal to your devotion to that color. Nyx Lotus is played because it generates massive mana – in mono-color decks with high devotion, Nyx Lotus routinely taps for 6+ mana. This card can be abused with untap effects like Kiora’s Follower, Vizier of Tumbling Sands or Voltaic Key – turning Nyx Lotus into a huge engine. Because it enters tapped, it is too slow for most competitive formats – but EDH players love explosive turns, and Lotus delivers. Nyx Lotus is a major EDH staple for mono-color decks and some two-color decks with heavy devotion. It is one of the most played big-mana artifacts printed since 2020. Popular commanders that use Nyx Lotus are e.g. K’rrik, Son of Yawgmoth and Ayara, First of Locthwain in Mono-Black Devotion / Big mana decks. Mono-Green Ramp / Untap abuse decks often play Selvala, Heart of the Wilds and Freyalise, Llanowar’s Fury. Mono-Blue Untap / Combo decks play commanders like Urza, Lord High Artificer, Emry, Lurker of the Loch and Talrand, Sky Summoner. Nyx Lotus is not on the Reserved List.
