Mystical Tutor (Repaint)
Mystical Tutor is a one-mana blue instant, originally printed in Mirage (1996). It lets you search your library for an instant or sorcery card, you must reveal this card, then shuffle your library and put this card on top of it. Mystical Tutor is part of the famous Tutor cycle from Mirage – cards that search for a specific card type and place it on top of your library. It’s the blue counterpart to Vampiric Tutor and Worldly Tutor, representing blue’s mastery of knowledge and spell manipulation. Mechanically, it’s simple yet extremely potent: for just one blue mana, you can set up your next draw with your best spell, often in response to an opponent’s move or at the end of their turn. This card’s flexibility and instant speed make it one of the most skill-testing and powerful tutors ever printed. Its ability to find combo pieces, removal, or countermagic at instant speed has kept it relevant across multiple eras of competitive play. Mystical Tutor was a powerhouse in Legacy Reanimator and ANT decks during the 2000’s. It fetched cards like Reanimate, Entomb, or Ad Nauseam, creating almost perfect setups. Mystical Tutor was banned in Legacy in June 2010 due to its dominance performance in these decks. In Vintage, Mystical Tutor is restricted to one copy due to its synergy with cards like Ancestral Recall, Time Walk and Tinker. It still appears a lot in various combo decks (e.g. Doomsday, Beseech Storm, Paradoxical Outcome, Oath of Druids). In cEDH/Commander decks it remains a top-tier staple, nearly every blue combo deck runs it (e.g. Kraum + Tymna and Kefka, Court Mage). Mystical Tutor is not on the Reserved List, it has been reprinted multiple times.
