Mox Sapphire isn’t just one of Magic’s most powerful cards, it’s arguably the most important Mox ever printed. It’s the heart of blue decks, the color that dominates Vintage and defines Magic’s history. It’s fast, efficient, and has been part of every truly broken deck since its first printings in Alpha, Beta, and Unlimited (1993). As part of the legendary Power Nine, it’s the crown jewel for blue players. Mox Sapphire is restricted in Vintage and Old School and banned in every other sanctioned format. Blue is the color of counterspells, card draw, and manipulation. Free blue mana makes all of that even faster. Being able to cast Ancestral Recall, Time Walk, or hold up a Counterspell on turn one changes the entire pace of a game. In Vintage, Mox Sapphire is the most played of all the Moxen, since blue dominates the format and Sapphire functions as great acceleration. It appears in nearly every top-tier archetype such as Paradoxical Outcome Combo, Tinker/Blue Artifact Control, Oath of Druids, Jeskai/BUG Midrange and Stax. In Old School (93/94) formats, Mox Sapphire is the single most powerful card available to blue decks. Whether you’re playing Mono-Blue Control, UR Counterburn, or The Deck, Sapphire is always one of your best draws. Mox Sapphire is on the Reserved List; it will never be reprinted.
