Mox Jet is one of the most iconic cards in Magic’s entire history. It’s the black mage’s dream; fast acceleration that turns the early-game into an immediate dominant position. Mox Jet was printed in Alpha, Beta and Unlimited (1993) and is part of the Power Nine. For black decks, Mox Jet is the key to fast mana, letting you power out removal, discard, creatures, and combo pieces before your opponent even plays a land. Free mana is the most powerful mechanic in Magic, especially for black decks which thrive on early threats and disruption. Mox Jet is restricted in Vintage and Old School, and banned in every other sanctioned format. In any Vintage deck with black mana, Mox Jet is considered a universal staple (e.g. Storm Combo/Doomsday, Tinker/Paradoxical Outcome, BUG Midrange/Control). In Old School (93/94), Mox Jet is a key card in several iconic archetypes (e.g. Mono-Black Control, The Deck, Underworld Dreams, Reanimator). It lets you open with some devastating starts like casting a fast Hypnotic Specter or Underworld Dreams. Mox Jet is on the Reserved List; it will never be reprinted.
