Mox Emerald is one of Magic’s most iconic cards and a part of the legendary Power Nine. It was printed in Alpha, Beta, and Unlimited (1993). Mox Emerald is a symbol of Magic’s origin, a piece of nostalgia for players who love Old School play. It’s the green mage’s dream- free mana, fast starts, and the key to unfair acceleration. From powering out an early Erhnam Djinn in Old School to fueling Oath of Druids in Vintage, it’s been an essential part of Magic for over 30 years. Mox Emerald has been part of competitive Magic since the very first tournaments in the mid-1990’s. In early Type 1 (Vintage) and Old School magic, it featured prominently in decks that defined archetypes (e.g. The Deck, Channel-Fireball decks, Oath of Druids). It’s restricted in Vintage and Old School (93/94) and banned in every other sanctioned format. In Vintage, every deck that can reasonably use green mana plays Mox Emerald (e.g. Oath of Druids, BUG Midrange-Control, Stax, Paradoxical Outcome Combo). In Old School (93/94) Mox Emerald finds its home in many different decks (e.g. Green Ramp/Midrange, The Deck, Zoo/Aggro decks). Mox Emerald is on the Reserved List; it will never be reprinted.
