Featuring Terese Nielsen’s promo version of Lotus Cobra, the “Lotus” painting genre is by far the most sought after in MTG as a 1/1 collectible, attributed to its lineal connection to the game’s most iconic card, Black Lotus. Because Chippy’s Zendikar version of the painting is lost, this promo version is as OG as it gets for Lotus Cobra. Lotus Cobra is a 2-mana green 2/1 Snake creature with Landfall from Zendikar (2009). Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, you may add one mana of any color to your mana pool. Lotus Cobra provides flexible color fixing, letting you cast multicolor spells more easily. It has great synergy with fetchlands, effectively double-triggering Cobra’s Landfall, making it an engine rather than a simple ramp card. Turn one mana dork into a turn two Lotus Cobra + Fetchland can produce 4-5 mana on turn two. Lotus Cobra was a standard powerhouse during multiple eras. During the Zendikar-Scars of Mirrodin Standard era (2009-2011), it was a core card in RUG Ramp and Valakut Ramp decks alongside Jace, the Mind Sculptor and Primeval Titan. It returned as a key ramp piece in Omnath, Locus of Creation builds before Omnath was banned for being too dominant (2020-2021). In Modern, it occasionally appeared in Scapeshift, Omnath Ramp, and Four-Color Elemental lists and it has some niche play in Legacy and Vintage. It's popular in Pioneer (e.g. Lotus Field Combo variants, Temur Ramp) and Commander decks. Lotus Cobra is one of the most popular green ramp creatures in EDH (e.g. Omnath, Locus of Rage or Tatyova, Benthic Druid), where it can generate absurd amounts of mana with cards like Exploration or Crucible of Worlds. Lotus Cobra is not on the Reserved List, it’s been reprinted several times (Zendikar Rising, Iconic Masters, Commander: Bloomburrow).
