lord-of-atlantis
Lord of Atlantis (Repaint)

Lord of Atlantis is a classic blue Merfolk creature first printed in Alpha (1993). Unlike many early cards, it’s still relevant today. It’s the face of one of Magic’s longest-lived tribal archetypes: Merfolk (“Fish), competitively played in Legacy and Modern formats. Because of its tribal buff (“lord”) effect, giving other Merfolk’s +1/+1 and islandwalk, this card was very powerful in a blue-dominant meta like Legacy. It’s a cheap and aggressive 2-drop that fits perfectly into the curve of a tempo deck. During Legacy’s 2008-2014 period, Merfolk was one of the top-tier decks alongside Maverick, Stoneblade, and RUG Delver. The deck ran Lord of Atlantis alongside cards such as Master of the Pearl Trident, Silvergill Adept, Aether Vial, Daze, and Force of Will. The combination of having multiple lords in play together with islandwalk created very fast and consistent wins against most blue decks. Merfolk was also a popular Modern deck for many years (especially from 2013-2018), and still is competitive in today’s metagame. In cEDH, Lord of Atlantis is a staple in Merfolk tribal decks (e.g. Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca) as part of the “lord package” that buffs other Merfolk. Lord of Atlantis is not on the Reserved List, it’s been reprinted multiple times.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0721/8000/6957/files/Lord_of_Atlantis_Repaint_Alpha_front_a_white.jpg?v=1775127291
