In Old School (93\/94), \u003cem\u003eJohan\u003c\/em\u003e very occasionally appears as a flavorful inclusion in “Legends-themed” decks – especially those that focus on showcasing the earliest legendary creatures. While he’s expensive at six mana and not particularly efficient for competitive Old School play, he can appear in Casual Naya Midrange builds alongside cards like \u003cem\u003eBirds of Paradise, Sylvan Library, Force of Nature\u003c\/em\u003e, and Elder Dragon Legends like \u003cem\u003ePalladia-Mors\u003c\/em\u003e or \u003cem\u003eVaevictis Asmadi\u003c\/em\u003e. In Commander (EDH), Johan is played in decks with the “exert” theme (a creature gets an extra effect when it attacks, but it won’t untap during its controller’s next untap step) – playing cards like \u003cem\u003eChampion of Rhonas, Combat Celebrant, Watchful Naga, Glorybringer\u003c\/em\u003e, and \u003cem\u003eTah-Crop Elite\u003c\/em\u003e.
