Intuition is one of the most deceptively powerful blue cards ever printed. It looks symmetrical – your opponent chooses which card you get – but it’s actually used to guarantee access to exactly what you need. It’s played because it can function as a tutor card, when you pick three copies of the same card. Intuition is also a combo enabler, by putting key cards in the graveyard. By combining it with recursion or flashback cards, it turns into a real value engine. Essentially, Intuition turns your graveyard into an extension of your hand – a principle that’s shaped entire archetypes. Intuition was a Legacy powerhouse, mostly as a combo enabler or toolbox tutor. There are many different iconic archetypes with this card. In Lands decks, Intuition acts as a perfect tutor – you can search for three copies of Life from the Loam, guaranteeing one to your hand and two in the graveyard. This fuels the Loam / Wasteland / Exploration engine that controls the board while generating massive advantage. It’s also used to fetch utility lands like Dark Depths, Thespian’s Stage, and Maze of Ith. Miracles decks, especially the older versions (before Sensei’s Divining Top was banned), used Intuition as a card draw engine – casting it for three Accumulated Knowledge so they could draw three cards of it. Combo decks like Reanimator have also used Intuition to dump creatures such as Iona, Shield of Emeria, Griselbrand, or Sphinx of the Steel Wind into the graveyard, setting up Reanimate or Exhume on the following turn. In some blue artifact-based control decks, Intuition could fetch Mindslaver, Academy Ruins, and Crucible of Worlds – ensuring you had access to repeated Mindslaver activations. In Vintage, it has appeared in control and combo shells as a tutor that dodges restrictions (e.g. Yawgmoth’s Will setups, three combo pieces in Tinker/Time Vault decks, and for Deep Analysis or Accumulated Knowledge as card draw engines). In Commander (EDH), Intuition is an elite-level instant that appears in many blue decks. Here it’s mainly used for graveyard recursion decks, reanimator strategies, and combo setups (e.g. Underworld Breach, Lion’s Eye Diamond, and Brain Freeze). It’s regarded as one of the top blue instants in cEDH, valued for its flexibility, instant speed, and combo-enabling nature. In Premodern, Intuition has seen play in Reanimator, Miracle Grow (UG Treshold), and Psychatog Control. Intuition is on the Reserved List.
