A watercolor masterpiece repainted by beloved dual land alpha artist Drew Tucker, High Tide had 3 different art variations in its original printing for the Fallen Empires set (Drew Tucker, Anson Maddocks, Amy Weber). High Tide is a one-mana blue instant that temporarily turns all basic Islands into double mana sources for a turn. While simple on the surface, it’s the backbone of several combo decks that chain card draw and untap effects into massive storm turns, often winning the game in one explosive go. It’s best known from Legacy High Tide decks (like Solidarity or Spiral Tide) that used cards like Time Spiral, Cunning Wish, and Meditate to draw through their decks and generate massive storm counts to finish with Brain Freeze or Blue Sun’s Zenith. Though this archetype has largely disappeared from top-tier Legacy play due to faster combos and power creep, High Tide still has some play. In Commander/cEDH, it’s sometimes used in mono-blue storm or spell-slinger decks (like Arjun, Talrand, or Jin-Gitaxias), especially those that focus on big turns with lots of spells. High Tide is not on the Reserved List. Cards from Fallen Empires and other early sets (including High Tide) are part of the Reserved List and thus will not be reprinted under the policy established by Wizards of the Coast.
