Getaway Car (Original Sketch)
Getaway Car is a three-mana 4/3 Artifact – Vehicle with haste, and crew 1 – whenever Getaway Car attacks or blocks, return up to one creature that crewed it this turn to its owner’s hand. Haste makes the card much stronger, because it can attack immediately, and you can generate value by bouncing the creature that crewed it. Getaway Car is much more explosive than other Vehicles that require a turn before they can attack. This card massively boosts ETB (enters-the-battlefield) value engines by crewing with a creature like Spirited Companion, Inspiring Overseer or Extraction Specialist. It has a low crew cost, even the tiniest creatures can crew 1 and drive it. Bounce also protects key value creatures from removal or board wipes. Getaway Car saw the most competitive success in Standard (2022-2023), where it was primarily used in decks like Esper Midrange / Esper Legends, Orzhov Midrange (with ETB creatures), Rakdos Midrange (with Fable of the Mirror-Breaker), and in Extraction Specialist loops. It worked because, by having haste, and being a bounce engine that applied early pressure – it was a flexible threat in tempo / value shells. It’s mostly played in Commander / EDH with commanders like Yarok, the Desecrated and Brago, King Eternal. Getaway Car is not on the Reserved List.
