Emerald Medallion (Original Art)
Emerald Medallion is all about accelerating green’s natural strengths – explosive mana growth, creature swarms, and scaling spells. Unlike mana dorks or ramp sorceries, which provide temporary or conditional mana, the Medallion passively reduces the cost of every green spell you play. This means that your mana dorks come down earlier, your big creatures and ramp spells arrive a turn sooner, and your turn sequences become smoother and more efficient over a long game. It’s not just early-game acceleration – it’s long-term mana efficiency that compounds as you cast more spells. In Commander (EDH), Emerald Medallion is a staple in mono-green decks and in multi-color decks with heavy green spell bases. Some typical commanders that use it include e.g. Selvala, Heart of the Wilds, Tifa Lockhart, Ghalta, Primal Hunger, and Ashaya, Soul of the Wild. This card is played, because cost reduction synergizes with Mana Reflection, Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, and Selvala. It helps cast multiple green creatures per turn – great in Elfball, Stompy, and Creature Storm decks. Noncreature green spells like Cultivate, Kodama’s Reach, and Harmonize also benefit this effect. In EDH, it’s almost an auto-include in mono-green decks. Emerald Medallion is not on the Reserved List.
