Illustrated by beloved Power 9 artist Mark Poole, Crusade is a 2-mana white enchantment originally printed in Alpha (1993). It was a cornerstone of early white Aggro decks, especially White Weenie, Soldiers, and token-based strategies. It played a key role in Magic’s early competitive scene by enhancing creature-heavy board states. While once legal in formats like Commander, Vintage and Old School, it was officially removed from all sanctioned tournament play in 2020 due to cultural concerns around its name. Although it appeared in multiple reprints over the years, it has since been permanently retired from future printings. Crusade is remembered for its role in supporting wide creature-based strategies and remains a notable part of Magic’s early gameplay legacy. Although Crusade is not on the Reserved List, in June of 2020 Wizards announced that it will never be reprinted, all images of this card will be permanently removed from its marketing materials and it will be permanently banned in all sanctioned Magic formats.
