A 1-mana white instant first printed in Alpha (1993). You can only cast this spell during combat before blockers are declared. Target creature defending player controls can block any number of attacking creatures this turn and the creature blocks each attacking creature if able. This card has a lot of flavor and nostalgia to it, as one of Magic’s earliest “heroic sacrifice” cards. If used creatively e.g. with a creature that has first strike, death touch, or is indestructible it has a lot of combat trick potential. Blaze of Glory saw occasional casual and experimental play in early white decks, especially those running large defensive creatures like Serra Angel or Wall or Swords. It was one of Magic’s first combat tricks; alongside Giant Growth and Holy Strength, it taught players how timing and combat interactions could be complex and rewarding. Blaze of Glory is on the Reserved List, so no other versions of this subject matter will appear on a printed Magic card.
