Berserk is a one-mana green instant from Alpha (1993) that can turn any creature into a big attacker on the spot. It gives a creature trample and +X/+0 until end of turn, where X is its power. If this creature has attacked that turn it’s destroyed at the beginning of the next end step. In decks that are about pushing damage and finishing fast, Berserk gives a ton of damage. The timing “before combat damage step” means it can sneakily turn an attack into a large lethal threat. It is part of Magic’s early creature-combat trick design, it shows how early design included big risk/reward cards. Its raw burst damage earned it a spot on Vintage’s restricted list from 1994 to 2003. It continues to command respect in certain Commander decks (e.g. Tifa Lockhart) and Legacy (e.g. Infect). This card is not on the Reserved list, and has been reprinted a few times (From the Vault: Exiled, Conspiracy, Secret Lair Drop
    Series
), although it is one of the few cards from the Alpha/Beta/Unlimited sets that was not reprinted in 3rd Edition/Revised.
